5 out of 5 stars Easy to Assemble, Very Sturdy   August 15, 2010
Vic (The Adirondack Park in NY)
I purchased this box to be used on a utility trailer. The box provides a large amount of storage space. I have driven in several rain storms and the contents in the box have stayed dry. Utility trailers bounce around quite a bit and the box has held up well and shows no signs of damage.

Assembly was a snap despite what other reviewers have written. The box is designed so well that I hardly referred to the instructions during assembly. Several reviewers mentioned how hard the box was to assemble so I had my wife time me from the time I opened the box until I put the box on the utility trailer (she did not help). Total time 24 minutes. That being said I did use what I consider basic tools, a ratcheting box wrench, an open end wrench, a socket wrench and a screw driver. Using the correct tool always helps.

I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this box to anyone that needs large durable outside storage.

3 out of 5 stars Customer Service Department?   July 8, 2010

This appears to be a very nice deck box. Unfortunately, it was delivered with a warped lid. Okay. Mistakes happen. However, when I called the number listed for the "Customer Service Department," I was disconnected once and then spent more than 20 minutes on hold before giving up and logging into Lifetime's website.

At the website, I found a "contact us" section where, after filling out and emailing the requisite form, Lifetime's canned response says someone will contact me in "2-3 days." Twenty minutes on hold? "2-3 days"? Are you kidding me?

I don't know whether Lifetime has a high volume of complaints or a low level of commitment to customer service. Either way, my experience does not inspire confidence in the company or its products.

I should add that assembly of the lid literally requires a ratchet plus several other tools and sizes of tools. Also indicative of lack of consideration for the customer.

I just want to say this item shipped very quickly and delivered before the date specified. The deck box is really nice and goes together very easily. You will not be sorry with this purchase. I could not find a better deal locally and even got it shipped to my home yee ha!

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   June 6, 2010

Huge, easy to assemble, light enough to move easily, hoses off well, able to put a combination lock on it. My only hope for future versions would be for it to be easier to open, although it's not so bad once you get the hang of it.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Box, But a Nightmare to Assemble   June 3, 2010

First off let me comment on the quality of the product. The box itself is excellent. It is well constructed, sturdy and has important features like air pistons on the lid to prevent it from slamming shut on your (or little one's)fingers. The internal hardware securing the box makes the box much more secure than it would be otherwise. That's not to say that it couldn't be broken into. It is after all just made of PVC. However, it's going to take more than just a kick to make it fall apart.

That being said. Putting together the box was a real pain. The assembly of the main box was easy. The front, back and sides snap into place into the floor. They are then secured with metal L shaped brackets to the box walls. The screws are self tapping Phillips head so not too bad to install but a second person holding the bracket in place for the first screw helps a lot.

The pain comes with attaching the hinges to the lid and the box. For some unknown reason they decided to use bolts that need to be secured with a socket wrench. I guess it's to allow the hinge to fit into a tighter space. Attaching to the lid is not that bad, but attaching to the side is a real pain. The bolt that feeds in from the side does not have enough room to turn so it needs to be slid into place through the hole on the side and the hinge, then held in place with a wrench while the nut on the other side is tightened with a socket wrench.

The REAL pain comes in securing the piece of metal (a lid support) to the front of the lid. This literally took me almost an hour as it was next to impossible to line up the metal bar (despite the notch to "position it) with the "guide holes" on the lid. The angle you have to work at is very awkward and you are again driving the screw in using a socket wrench.

So overall a good box, but a bit on the expensive side. Just be prepared to be frustrated with parts of the assembly.
